Are you ready for Spring?

By Mike Sankey   |   March 15, 2023

As we look ahead to warmer weather, there are a few things we can do to prepare:

Planter Maintenance

Now is the time to inspect the whole planter. Do any disc openers need to be replaced? Are there any bearings out on the row cleaners? These are just two things–of many–that can be taken care of before getting the planter out this spring. Don’t forget to check all trucks, tractors, pumps, and other farm equipment as well. Check out our equipment checklist.

Crop Planning

Make sure you know how many acres and where each crop will be planted. Keep your fertilizer and chemical dealers informed. Fertilize each field to your specific yield goal. Also, be sure to look at last year’s chemical history when making these plans. You don’t want to find out the hard way that your corn or soybean chemical program last year had an 18-month alfalfa rotation interval.

Seed Deliveries

Delivery of seed for this planting season has begun, if you are a direct-ship customer have a space prepared. If you get your seed from a dealer, coordinate delivery or pick-up so you have your seed when you need it. Organize your seed so that you can get to what you need without having to move boxes or bags out of the way. Knowing the order in which fields get planted will help with this process
